Last Letters/No Regrets seeks to promote healing and remembrance through writing. It began with a request from a young parent who was dying. Knowing she would miss graduations, weddings, and births, she wanted to leave love letters for her family to enjoy when these future happy events unfolded. As a result of this experience, I am motivated to help others find emotional and spiritual closure in their lives through writing. Last Letters/No Regrets is designed to address the needs of people who want to express themselves on paper, but need help getting the letter or project started. Your personal endeavor can be about you, a relative or friend, an occurrence in your life, a piece of history that intersects with your family’s life, or an unresolved issue you want to unpack and heal. My job is to be a cheerleader, editor, and ghostwriter so you produce a meaningful document. Past projects include: Letters to loved ones Heritage, or legacy projects Eulogy of a loved one Family narrative Historical timeline of a family Ancestral review of a relative Journal entry Your motivation can be as a family historian, a loving friend or relative, or a personal healing project that results in the preservation of a memory, piece of family history, or relationship. As a writer and marketing specialist, I have designed and maintained content for websites, magazines, advertisements, various professional continuing education courses, and all manner of print and digital media. I’ve created social media strategies in line with niche small business needs, tended SEO, written copy for commercials & professional videos, and produced professional events. Let’s work together! The Marquette Area Blues Society (MABS) was born July 4, 2003 during the annual fireworks display in Marquette at the Lower Harbor Park. Founding members Terry Klavitter, April Lindala and Walt Lindala always enjoyed the sights and sounds of what Marquette had to offer, but they continually asked – “Why doesn’t this town have a blues festival?” Marquette’s residents love music and they love a good time – it just made sense.

We are a diverse group of Marquette area visual artists. We hold Gatherings twice a month on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:00. Though we are at a full capacity of 20 artists we always invite interested artists to attend any of our Gatherings and to get in the Waiting List to become a member. Our function is to support each individual artist member and the visual arts in general in this region. We have multiple group exhibits, we are actively involved with our community, we hold critiques, learn about new media together, and have in depth conversations about art.

The Marquette Choral Society is a mixed chorus formed by community members from Marquette, Michigan, its surrounding area, and students at Northern Michigan University. It was founded in 1971. The musical director is Dr. Erin Colwitz, Director of Choral Activities in the Department of Music at NMU. The group rehearses Monday nights during the academic year on the campus of Northern Michigan University. New members are always welcome - no audition is necessary. The Marquette Choral Society performs two major concerts per year - one in December and the other in April. Over the years, it has focused much of its attention on the large works of the choral repertoire, including oratorios by Handel, Bach, and Haydn, and masses by Mozart, Beethoven, and Schubert, among many others. Marquette Choral Society takes pride in the fact that it has commissioned and given world premieres to many new and important contributions to the choral literature. Works premiered by the following composers: Thomas LaVoy, Paul Ayres, Griffin Candey, Dave Brubeck, Jackson Berkey, and Atso Almila.

The Marquette Choral Society, established in 1971, is a community choir associated with the Department of Music of Northern Michigan University. Singers include both university students and members of the wider community who participate for the love of singing. The Marquette Choral Society has focused on the masterworks of the Western tradition—Bach, Beethoven, Brahms, Handel, Mozart—while also performing more contemporary pieces by such composers as Bernstein, Honegger, and Hovhaness. In 1992, the group commissioned Dave Brubeck to compose Earth is Our Mother to celebrate the choir’s twentieth anniversary. Other commissioned works have included those by Jackson Berkey (2002) and Paul Ayres (2015). In July 2017, the group was honored to celebrate Finland’s centennial with its first international tour.

From the 1860’s to 1900 immigrant bands made up of Cornish (e.g., the English Oak Band), Finnish, Swedish, German, and Italian musicians marched in parades and presented concerts in and around Marquette, Negaunee and Ishpeming. In the fall of 1887, the first official Marquette City Band was established when the entire Calumet Eureka Band, consisting of 14 members, was invited to move permanently from Calumet to Marquette. In 1929, John Longyear, Jr. circulated a petition and presented a plan to the city council for municipal funding to reestablish the band after a period of dormancy. The voters approved the measure, and Martin Johnson directed their first performance in 1929. The band has had an unbroken record of performance since then.

The group was founded in 1968 by men who learned folk dancing elsewhere. This is a recreational group that meets (nearly) every Friday night of the year, 7:00 pm, at the Women's Center Gym (Northern Lights Martial Arts Center), . Our group has a good men/women balance, so our repertoire favors partner dances. Our repertoire is primarily from all over Europe, highlighting Scandinavia, Great Britain, Central & Eastern Europe, and the Balkan countries. We have dances from Israel and a few from North America. Partner dances include set dances from all regions of Europe except the Balkans. On a typical Friday night we do about 2/3 partner dances and 1/3 non-partner dances. Every Friday has a spectrum from slow to strenuous. Dress comfortably for exercise. Bring soft-soled shoes. We do some teaching on most Fridays. To pay rent, we charge $5/person/night or $200/year. Although the group is primarily recreational, we have performed at ethnic festivals and art fairs.
